How can the study activity model be used?

In order to support the students' study intensity and learning outcome, they must be presented tothe Study Activity Model. It can be used in two ways:

  1. 1

    Dialogue and matching student expectations

    • The activities in the student activity model exemplify the method of study at AAU
    • The interaction of different activities
    • Responsibility for own learning
  2. 2

    Organisation of semesters and courses

Check out the following Excel tool to support the work of building semesters with an appropriate distribution of hours and calculate the students' workload and thus visualize what they can expect during the semester.

If you are considering implementing the Study Activity Model at the start of your studies, you may want to ask yourself the following:

  • How do we actually expect our students to prepare and work in their own study time? Is it clear to ourselves and to them?
  • Do our students know what techniques to get the most out of the lectures?
  • Are the students familiar with the objectives of the different activities and working methods in which they participate? - E.g. lectures and assignments
  • Do we have the same requirements and expectations across the group of professors?

Also consider the programme's communication of the types of activities 'the job' as a student contains, including how students optimise their outcome of the various activities (project and group work/PBL, lectures, exercises, report, project and assignment writing, etc.)

Typically, the head of studies is responsible, while a VIP-employee is the one carrying out the task.
