Crisis assistance for students

If a critical incident involving one or more students has occurred, help is available at AAU.

At Aalborg University we have a psychological response team available for helping with crises. Professional care is a vital part of taking care of both the student and of you as an employee.

Premises for receiving psychological help from AAU:

Coverage of the costs needs to be approved by at least delegation level 4 (for instance the head of studies, the vice head of department, the sector manager, the head of section or the head of the secretariat). A maximum of 5 hours can be requisitioned including transportation. If additional hours are needed, the AAU General Student Guidance must be involved.

Furthermore, at least one of the following premises needs to be met*.

  • The crisis occurred in connection to Aalborg University.
  • The crisis has an impact on the student(s) ability to maintain their studies.
  • The crisis is assessed to be severe enough that AAU’s own systems, such as the General Student Guidance, The Study Chaplains or The Student Counseling Services, cannot handle it themselves.

*Whether or not the psychological crisis help can be acquired will always depend on a concrete evaluation of the situation by the head of studies, who will potentially aid in the decision making.

Procedure for contacting a crisis psychologist

  1. 1

You are contacted by a student due to a crisis where one or more students are involved.

  2. 2

Afterwards you contact your nearest leader who is on at least delegation level four, for instance the head of studies, the vice head of department, the sector manager, the head of section or the head of the secretariat, to figure out whether the situation warrants emergency psychological aid. If possible, you should look into whether the student(s) has emergency psychological aid covered by their own insurance. If yes, then the student’s own insurance needs to be used instead of AAU’s psychological emergency team.

A leader that has the authority to approve of psychological emergency aid can spar with AAU Student Guidance about the student’s need of help.

  3. 3

The responsible leader or interlocutor chosen by the leader will acquire the psychological emergency aid from 'Nordisk Krisekorps' using their 24/7 phone at: (+45) 60 11 11 44

Nordisk Krisekorps or AAU Student Guidance both offer free counseling about which offer is needed.

  4. 4

If the procurer is not the responsible leader (who’s at least at delegation level 4), the procurer must make a written report to the responsible leader. This is done in order to secure later journaling.

  5. 5

Hereafter, a chief psychologist will begin solving the case. The psychologist oversees the process, makes arrangements and continually orients the leader in charge of the process.

  6. 6

After finishing an urgent psychological crisisprocedure, the procurer or contact person fills out a formular in WorkZone to cover the expenses related to the urgent crisis involving students. Study service (General Student Guidance) makes sure to approve the invoice and uploads the relevant appendices, whereafter the case is closed.

  7. 7

If you as an AAU-employee needs to talk a difficult experience through with someone, you can use AAU’s deal about psychological counseling for employees.

Contact the HR-department for potential questions.

Taxi To The Hospital

In the case of non-critical injuries necessitating a doctor’s visit, or if transportation to a psychiatric hospital is needed, AAU’s offer of 'seated patient transport' may be used.

Do you need advice?

During crises AAU Student Guidance plays a coordinating role. This means that we do not handle the situation, but we do provide advice on questions regarding the procedure of requesting psychological crisis assistance.
